In Roseville, Retail Sector Tops Employment _ But Just Barely

Employment data presented at City Council's long-range planning meeting.

In Roseville, the retail sector occupies the top-ranked spot for employment.

That was among the pieces of background information provided to City Council members this week at their long-range planning meeting.

Of the 36,337 jobs in Roseville, retail trade edges out professional, scientific and tech services as the city’s top employment segment – but just barely. A total of 347 retail businesses employ 6,057 workers, two more than the 6,055 workers employed by the 400 professional, scientific and technical services businesses.
The current number of businesses in Roseville totals 2,654, according to data presented to City Council members.

But the number of jobs ranges widely, from the robust retail sector to the holding company management to the smallest group of employees in Roseville, which employs 20.
Percentage-wise, retail and professional services both employ 16.7 percent of workers in Roseville.
