Update: Motorcyclist Dies Following Crash in Roseville

Editor's Note: The Roseville Police Department issued the following update this afternoon (Wednesday, April 25) about a motorcycle accident:

On Tuesday, April 24 the motorcyclist critically injured when he rear ended another motor vehicle died as a result of his injuries from this crash.

The victim has been identified as 60-year old Roy Garza, of St. Paul.

The accident took place at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 22nd, in Roseville near the intersection of Larpenteur Avenue West and Cumberland Street.

The Roseville Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol are investigating this crash.

A 60-year old St. Paul motorcyclist is in critical condition at Regions Hospital after he rear ended a motor vehicle stopped in traffic near the intersection of Larpenteur Avenue and Cumberland Street on Sunday, April 22nd.
According to witnesses, the 60-year old St. Paul man was traveling west bound on Larpenteur Avenue at approximately 1:45 p.m. when he changed lanes and rear ended a motor vehicle stopped and/or slowing in traffic to travel south onto Cumberland Avenue.
Upon arrival of police, the 60-year old motorcyclist was found unconscious, suffering severe head trauma and was transported to Regions Hospital by ambulance for care.
The driver of the struck car has been identified as a 24-year old St. Paul man. This driver suffered no injuries and has been cooperating with police.
Because of the seriousness of this accident, the Minnesota State Patrol was requested to the scene to assist with the investigation/reconstruction. During the course of the accident investigation, portions of both west and east bond Larpenteur Avenue were shut down for approximately 3-hours.
According to preliminary reports, it doesn’t appear alcohol was a contributing factor to this crash. It is unknown if the 60-year old cyclist was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.
