Roseville Fire Station Project Proceeds With a Caveat

More than $700,000 in contracts for the construction of the new Roseville fire station will go to three Minnesota companies, provided a citizens’ group trying to block the project doesn’t appeal a court decision.

The group, Responsible Governance For Roseville (RGR), , but the Minnesota Court of Appeals dismissed their lawsuit in late April.

On Monday, the Roseville Council voted unanimously to award contracts to complete fire station site work, utilities, foundation and paving—but not until May 24, the date the clock runs out on the citizens’ group’s option to appeal the court decision.

Fire chief Tim O’Neill said the litigation has resulted in the department losing five weeks of the construction season.

“The overall goal is to have the building enclosed by November 30,” he said. “That’s important to us to avoid additional heating costs and the weather slowing down the contractors.”

The $700,000 in construction contracts were awarded to Thompson Construction of Princeton, Frattalone Companies and Midwest Asphalt Corporation. Their bids came in a combined 20 percent under the projected budget.
