Roseville, Concordia Academy Runners Prepare For State

The Raiders girls cross country team will compete for a title on Saturday in Northfield

The Roseville cross country community will be well-represented at the boys and girls state meet on Saturday at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

The Roseville Area High School girls team qualified for the state meet by winning the Section 4AA championship, and the Raiders will be competing for the state crown at 10 a.m.

Roseville Area senior Sam Elfstrom will represent the Raiders’ boys team. He placed 10th at the Section 4AA meet and will race at 11 a.m.

For Concordia Academy, senior Steve Zeller will compete in the Class A state meet. He placed sixth in the Section 4A meet. Zeller’s state race will begin at 2 p.m.

The Raiders’ girls team won their 15-team section, topping the field with 61 team points. East Ridge also qualified for state from the section with a team score of 65 points.

Roseville junior Sammy Nielsen is a viable threat as a top finisher individually. She finished second in the section with a 14:52.0 time, just behind Tartan’s Shaelyn Sorensen’s 14:45.0. Both will have their hands full winning the individual crown, however, as Shakopee’s Maria Hauger returns as the two-time defending state champion. She won her section in 13:36.5.

Also competing for the Raiders’ girls team is Allison Cordes, who placed third in the section and finished two seconds behind Nielsen at 14:54.0.

Caroline Brisbois finished 12th at secsions, while Naomi Boehm took 21st, Lindsey Lee took 23rd, Anna Nelson finished 28th and Robyn Holmes took 31st.
