Roseville Girls Track Takes 8th At State

Raiders' sophomore Samantha Nielsen led the way with a second place finish in the 800 meter run

The Roseville Area boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Class AA state meet on Friday and Saturday at Hamline University in St. Paul.

The girls team finished eighth overall with 29 team points. Hopkins won the state championship with 84 points. On the boys side, Roseville finished with five team points, while Stillwater won the meet with 47 points.

For the Raiders, sophomore Samantha Nielsen led the way. Nielsen took second overall in the 800 meter run. She finished the race in 2:13.12, second only to Fergus Falls’ Haylie Zenner’s 2:12.56.

Senior Rebecca Dyson finished third in the 1600 meter run at 4:59.88. Senior Sophia Salmanpour finished fifth overall in the 300 meter hurdles at 45.66.

Nielsen, Olivia Hansen, Namsy Sekenwa and Ellie Wilson finished ninth in the 4x400 meter relay at 3:59.56.

On the boys side, junior Emeche Wells took eighth in the 110 meter hurdles at 15.07, then took seventh in the 300 meter hurdles at 39.58.
