Roseville Heads to Mounds View for Playoff Opener

Raiders football face a tough Mustangs squad in opening round.

Roseville opens Section 2AAAAA football tournament play Tuesday at Mounds View. The Mustangs are the No. 2 seed, and probably have a bit of a chip on their shoulder after getting edged by Totino-Grace for the top seed.

The Raiders and North St. Paul both finished 2-6, but Roseville got the No. 7 seed based on playing a tougher schedule.

Mounds View prevailed 27-7 in Week 4.

RAIDERS WIN IF …

Roseville ended the regular season on a five-game losing streak, but the Raiders are better than their record indicates. They gave Stillwater all they could handle a couple weeks ago, and dropped a one-point heart-breaker to Forest Lake two weeks earlier. Beating Mounds View is a tall order, but if the Raiders can put it all together they could give the Mustangs more than they bargained for.

MUSTANGS WIN IF …

Mounds View, the runner-up in the Suburban East Conference this season, missed the No. 1 seed by an eyelash, but many people are already looking ahead to a matchup between the Mustangs and top-ranked Totino-Grace in the finals. If they stay focused, the Mustangs should move one step closer to that possibility with a win Tuesday.

2010 PLAYOFFS

Roseville lost to White Bear Lake in the quarterfinals. Defending section champion Mounds View lost to defending state champion Wayzata in the state semifinals.
