Roseville's John Marty To Head State Senate Environment Committee
Bakk cites Marty's "tireless" advocacy for the environment, as reason for his appointment.

Minnesota Senate Majority Leader-designate Tom Bakk has announced that Senator John Marty, DFL-Roseville, will lead the Senate Committee on Environment and Energy when the DFL regains control of the body on Jan. 8.Β
Bakk, in a press statement, cited Martyβs years of experience on statewide environment and energy policy as the key factor in his being named to the chairmanship position.

βSen. Marty has earned a reputation as a tireless advocate for our environment and he has a strong grasp of the energy challenges facing our state,β Bakk said. βHeβs devoted to improving our quality of life here in Minnesota, and I am confident in his leadership of the Environment and Energy Committee.β

Marty has served in the Minnesota Senate since 1987 and was previously chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources from 2003-2007. He also served as vice-chair of the Senate Committee on Public Utilities and Energy, where he focused on alternative energy sources.

Marty said he is eager to work with his fellow legislators, executive branch agencies, business groups, conservationists, and other advocates to develop responsible environment and energy policies.

The 2013 Legislative Session will convene at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at which time Marty and other designated Senate chairpersons will officially assume office.
