Fight at Mall of America a Flashback to 2010 Rosedale Center Stabbing, but Roseville's Mall Has Since Increased Security

The popular mall in Roseville has implemented new measures for safety following a stabbing in 2010.

, similar to many larger malls in the region, may step back and examine their security in light of the , but the popular Roseville mall's security has been significantly increased since a violent episode in 2010.

"It's something we may visit, but I don't think it's anything we need to re-evaluate," Roseville Police Lieutenant Lorne Rosand said. "We're prepared if something should occur."

The Roseville Police faced an incident of violence similar to the MOA fight less than two years ago at Rosedale, when several teens broke out into a fight in Feb. 2010, which led to a stabbing.

Both Rosedale and the Roseville police have taken steps since that incident. The "incident prompted the center to revise its practices, and strengthen its partnership with local police," the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.

Rosedale Center General Manager Rollin Hunsicker said customers of Rosedale should not be worried about violence at the mall.

"The safety of the customers anyone coming to our center is of highest priority at Rosedale," Hunsicker said.

Officers from the Roseville police do walk-throughs regularly at Rosedale Center, and the police have increased the amount of patrols since the 2010 incident.

Rosand doesn't recall any recent problems with violence in Roseville, and he said Rosedale has not had any major incidents since Feb. 2010. But Hunsicker acknowledged that the risk of violence always exists.

"We've done a number of things practically to prevent this from occuring again," Rosand said.

He also suggested some practical tips for shoppers at Rosedale to stay safe. Being watchful is key.

"It boils down to common sense," Rosand said. "If you see something bad, back away."
