
The Roseville School Board has given District Superintendent John Thein high marks for his skills as a community and instructional leader, as well as his stewardship of the district’s budget in uncertain financial times.
“Dr. Thein is recognized as an educational leader far beyond the district,” said Board Chairwoman Lisa Edstrom, releasing a public summary of the superintendent’s evaluation at the board’s meeting Tuesday.
The board cited Thein for, among other things, his efforts to:

- Increase academic excellence in the district
- Close the achievement gap between white students and students from minority groups,
- Include professional performance as a measure of teacher compensation
- Build a strong relationship with teachers and other employees
- And to build strong relationships and share resources with other districts.
The board also commended Thein for his foresight in managing the district’s budget and avoiding a financial disaster. Case in point: the district has reserve funds that will allow it to function through the summer if the state government shuts down.
“[My performance] is me standing on the shoulders of my excellent colleagues,” Thein said.
