Roseville To Bid Farewell To Fire Station No. 1

The old fire hall north of City Hall will be torn down to make way for a new approximately $8 million fire station.

The Roseville Fire Department will hold a farewell event at 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday) for Fire Station No. 1, 2701 Lexington Ave. N.

Located on the City Hall campus, the fire hall is the oldest one in Roseville, dating back to the 1940s. Community members are invited to attend the event; refreshments will be provided.

Participating in the event will be former fire fighters, retired fire chiefs, the current Fire Department, city staff, City Council members and Mayor Dan Roe. The program will include a final tour of the station and a photo display.

Originally donated to Rose Township by the George Reiling family, the building was converted from a car dealership, accordinfg to a city news statement.

Fire Chief Tim O'Neill has said the current station is outdated and is battling a mold problem. The building will be torn down sometime in December and a new station put in its place. Bonding to fund the new station was approved at Monday night's Council meeting.

After the program, the Fire Department Honor Guard will lower the American flag present at the building. The flag will not be raised again until the new station is open.
