Showdown: McCollum Leads Fight against Washington's NFL Team Name
Protest comes to a head as Vikings host Redskins in Thursday Night Football.

U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum (DFL-MN), who represents Minnesota's Fourth District including Stillwater, Woodbury, Roseville andΒ Oakdale, is gaining aΒ national profileΒ as a leaderΒ in the campaign to change the Washington Redskins team name and mascot.Β
McCollum, who co-chairs theΒ Congressional Native American Caucus, will join an American Indian Movement protest at Mall of America Field at theΒ Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome before Thursday's Vikings-Washington matchup, the Star Tribune reported.Β
"Itβs not a boycott, itβs not a protest against the NFL, itβs a protest against a racial slur," the newspaper quoted her as saying in an article Thursday about her activism on the issue.Β
