Sports Roundup: Local Squads Roll Into September
Roseville and Concordia Academy teams pack in a full week of games before the Labor Day holiday.

Athletic squads from both Roseville Area High School and Concordia Academy competed in a full schedule of contests last week prior to the Labor Day holiday as the calendar turned from August to September and the heart of the autumn sports season loomed ahead.
Raiders Cross-Country Running
The Roseville cross-country running teams both competed at the Rolf Mellby Invitational last Friday, with the girls winning their 25-team competition as the boys placed sixth.

Sammy Nielsen led the Raiders girls over their 4-kilometer course at St. Olaf College in Northfield with a fourth-place time of 15 minutes, 43 seconds. Allison Cordes (15:55) took sixth, Caroline Brisbois (15:56) 10th, Anna Nelson (16:28) 21st and Naomi Boehm (16:54) 36th to account for the Roseville girls' scoring.
For the Raiders boys scoring, Sam Elfstrom led the way in 22nd with a time of 17:38 over the 5K course, with Shane Carlson (17:42) in 24th, Evan Kacmarynski (17:54) in 37th, Tony Joyer (18:06) in 46th and Sam Toso (18:18) in 60th.

Raiders Boys Soccer
The Roseville boys soccer team lost a 5-2 decision at White Bear Lake in the Suburban East Conference opener on Sept. 1, one day after tying Minneapolis Washburn by a 1-1 score, as the Raiders bring a 1-2-1 record into this week.
Elvis Barclay leads the Raiders with five goals on the year, with Max Brasch pacing the squad with three assists through four games; goalkeeper Jordan Burich has 14 saves on 24 shots, with netminder Sam Bibeau making four stops on five attempts.
Raiders Girls Soccer
The Roseville girls soccer team enters this week at 0-4 after losses of 4-0 to Hill-Murray and 6-1 at White Bear Lake last Monday and Thursday, respectively. Individual statistics were not made available.
Raiders Volleyball
After defeating White Bear Lake, 3-1, in the season last Tuesday, the Roseville volleyball team lost by the same score to visiting Duluth East last Thursday to close out its first week at 1-1. Individual statistics were not made available.
Raiders Girls Tennis
The Roseville girls tennis team is 4-4 on the season after the Raiders claimed a 5-2 win over Minnehaha Academy last Monday, followed by a 4-3 loss to White Bear Lake last Wednesday. Individual statistics were not made available.
Beacons Boys Soccer
The Concordia boys soccer team closed out its pre-Labor Day schedule with a 1-1-1 record as the Beacons lost 4-1 to DeLaSalle last Thursday and tied St. Paul Johnson 3-3 last Friday.
Heading into the Johnson game, Pheng Thao, Josh Falk and Mitchell Porch were tied for the team lead with two goals apiece, while goalkeeper Marcos Rodriguez had made 12 saves on 15 shots through two games.
Beacons Girls Soccer
The Concordia girls soccer team entered this week at 2-1 after consecutive victories over Legacy Christian (2-1) and DeLaSalle (3-1) last Monday and Thursday, respectively. Individual statistics were not made available.
Beacons Volleyball
The Concordia volleyball team lost its season opener in a three-game sweep last Thursday, falling 8-25, 21-25, 22-25 at Cretin-Derham Hall. Individual statistics were not made available.
Beacons Cross-Country Running
The Concordia boys and girls cross-country running teams finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in a Tri-Metro Conference meet last Wednesday. Individual statistics were not made available.
