Third Annual City-Wide Garage Sale Makes a Big Hit

110 Roseville homes participated in sale on Saturday.

Friends Andrea Adar and Donna Bartol were newcomers to the Roseville city-wide Garage Sale that took place Saturday.

The two collaborated on a sale that featured a variety of items ranging from motorcycles and vintage video games to stuffed animals and knick knacks.  According to Adar, this was the first year they have participated; they had a great turnout and sold a lot of  items. Altogether,  110 homes participated in the Big Garage Sale.

Another satisfied seller was Debbie Krause.  Krause, a Roseville Parks and Recreation employee, went door to door in her neighborhood prior to the event to drum up excitement with her neighbors.

“I really wanted to get a lot of people in my area involved.” Krause said.

Although she is no stranger to hosting garage sales, Krause said she found that the organization of the city was the key to her success.  “It was very well visited and the weather was beautiful,” she said with a smile.

The Roseville city-wide  Garage Sale started three years ago when resident Mary Sherpa brought the idea to Roseville Parks and Recreation employee Rick Schultz.  One hundred thirty homes  participated the first year in kicking off the annual Roseville tradition.

Sherpa, a 24-year resident of Roseville, said  she had seen similar city-wide sales throughout the metro area and wanted to bring that same idea to her city.

“I am a firm supporter of reduce, reuse, recycle."she said. "Not only is it great to make the extra money, but I feel better knowing my unwanted belongings aren’t going into a landfill.

“People have really cut back in this economy, so it’s great to see people be able to not only save money but get out in the community and shop together,” Sherpa added.

Sherpa said she hopes the annual event grows in the coming years.
