ST. PAUL, MN — Gov. Tim Walz signed nine bills into law Tuesday, including measures that ban virtual currency kiosks in Minnesota and raise the legal age to possess kratom.
One of the new laws, SF 3868, prohibits the placement or operation of virtual currency kiosks in the state. Another, HF 3453, raises the legal age to possess kratom to 21 or older.
Walz also signed HF 3593, which designates a portion of Trunk Highway 58 in Zumbrota as the "Officer/Firefighter Gary L. Schroeder, Jr. Memorial Highway."
Other bills signed into law Tuesday include:
SF 1251 makes permanent an existing crossbow hunting and fishing allowance that had been set to expire.
SF 3887: Allows watershed districts to self-insure for certain employee health benefits.
HF 3676: Modifies provisions of the Safe at Home program and provides protections and remedies.
HF 4133: Prohibits certain exclusions in homeowners' insurance policies when damage is caused by a peace officer.
HF 3782: Requires disclosure of chemical irritants used by peace officers in certain buildings.
HF 3827: Clarifies certain Bureau of Criminal Apprehension grants to local law enforcement as reimbursements, updates laws related to crime recording, establishes a process for determining when some criminal records are ineligible for sealing, and requires courts to provide orders for protection for law enforcement access.
