ST. PAUL, MN — Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison issued a consumer alert Monday after Radio Link Internet abruptly closed and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Radio Link Internet filed for bankruptcy June 1 in the federal District of Minnesota Bankruptcy Court, according to Ellison’s office. The case number is 26-31830.
Customers reported that the company shut down its business operations without advance warning, Ellison’s office said. Customers also reported that Radio Link’s website, customer service phone line and company email addresses were immediately shut down.
Some consumers told the attorney general’s office that they had recently paid for internet service in advance, including up to one year of service, shortly before the company announced its closure.
Ellison’s office said affected customers should take the following steps:
Preserve records: Customers should keep receipts, invoices and correspondence related to any services they paid for but did not receive.
Contact their payment source: Customers who paid with a credit or debit card should contact their bank or credit card company and ask about requesting a chargeback for undelivered services.
File a complaint: Ellison’s office is asking affected customers and anyone with information about Radio Link Internet’s closure to contact the office.
Consumers can call the Attorney General’s Office at 651-296-3353 in the metro area, 800-657-3787 in Greater Minnesota, or 800-627-3529 through Minnesota Relay. Consumers can also file a complaint online.
Ellison’s office said it is investigating what caused the abrupt closure and why consumers were not provided advance warning of the closure or bankruptcy.
The office said it will continue to monitor the bankruptcy proceedings and alert consumers about their rights, including any future claim deadlines.
