WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN — Cup and Cone in White Bear Lake has been named America's Best Ice Cream, winning The64's bracket-style tournament after beating out 63 other shops nationwide.
The White Bear Lake shop was one of three Minnesota contenders in the field, alongside Grand Ole Creamery in St. Paul and Pumphouse Creamery in Minneapolis, and commenters on Cup and Cone's Facebook page noted all three advanced deep into the bracket before Cup and Cone took the title.
Cup and Cone thanked everyone who voted, shared its posts, and cheered the shop on throughout the tournament, calling the win a reflection of the White Bear Lake community it serves.
Longtime customers used the comments to share the shop's history.
Commenter Tony Sjolander recalled the building nearly facing the wrecking ball when a neighboring appliance store was torn down for new retail construction, while Darlyne Morrow recalled the Johnstone family running a grocery store and later an office supply store on the site in the early 1970s before the ice cream shop took over.
