ST. PAUL, MN — Michele Tafoya, a former NFL sideline reporter, is projected to win Tuesday's Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Minnesota, according to the Associated Press.
She defeated GOP-endorsed candidate Adam Schwarze and former NBA player Royce White.
Tafoya earned an endorsement from Pro Football Hall of Fame coach and Minnesota football legend Tony Dungy.
Her platform centers on government accountability, inflation, crime and border security.
She will face the winner of Minnesota's Democratic Senate primary, a contest between U.S. Rep. Angie Craig and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, in November's general election to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Tina Smith.
Six other candidates ran in the Republican primary: Bob "Again" Carney Jr., Cynthia Gail, Ahmad R. Hassan, Joyce Lacey, Patrick Munro and Tom Weiler.
