SAINT PAUL, MN — Police have identified the woman who was struck and killed by a dump truck Thursday morning while crossing a busy intersection in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood.
She was Karen A. McElveen, 69, of Apple Valley, the St. Paul Police Department said Friday.
Officers were called just after 8 a.m. Thursday to Ford Parkway and Cleveland Avenue on a report of a crash involving a pedestrian.
Preliminary information shows McElveen was crossing Cleveland Avenue when the dump truck hit her, police said. St. Paul Fire medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
The driver, an adult man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police. Officers did not observe any signs of impairment.
The intersection was closed for several hours Thursday while the department's Traffic and Pedestrian Safety unit and Forensic Services unit processed the scene.
Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no further information was available Friday.
