Join us at 1:00 pm on May 23, 2026 as we dedicate the Medal of Honor medallion finally provided to Captain Joseph Burger and 16 other new headstones for Civil War veterans.
Can you believe an MN Medal of Honor recipient was interred without any indicator on his headstone that he was awarded the highest military award for his service during Civil War?
Captain Burger's medal is being brought from the Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum to this ceremony. This ceremony is open to veterans, those with an interest in Civil War history, and the general public.
Wearing Civil War era attire is encouraged. The descendants of these veterans are most cordially invited to attend as special guests. A special salute to the management of Oakland Cemetery for their tireless support of veterans and their families for several decades.
The joint Honor Guard will be from the Roseville VFW Post 7555 and their partners in the American Legion. Soldiers will also be firing three rounds of musketry.
The members of Camp #56 consider this MOH medallion and headstone dedication ceremony an honor, and a fitting tribute for a Union soldier whose service helped preserve the liberties Americans enjoy as a nation today.
Please help us to show proper respect to all of these veterans.
