Car Going 100 mph When It Sliced Metro Transit Bus: Witness

Criminal vehicular homicide charges were announced in connection with a high-speed collision of a car and a Metro Transit bus in Saint Paul.

SAINT PAUL, MN — The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office Monday charged Tyler Randall Bjelland, of Minneapolis, with one count of criminal vehicular homicide in connection with a high-speed collision of a car and a Metro Transit bus in the Frogtown neighborhood of Saint Paul.

One bus passenger died on impact and a second is in critical condition. Several other passengers suffered minor injuries. Witnesses told police the defendant drove erratically and at a high rate of speed just before the crash.

Police say after hitting a median on Dale Street and going airborne, the car sliced directly through the middle section of the bus. An eyewitness told authorities she estimated the car's speed at 100 mph when it hit the bus.
