Final Flag And Seal Design Chosen For State Of MN: See Them Here

A Minnesota panel last week chose the final state flag and seal design concept. Some modifications can still be made before Jan. 1.

ST. PAUL, MN — A Minnesota panel last week chose the final state flag and seal design concept.

While the State Emblems and Redesign Commission can still modify the designs before the Jan. 1 deadline, "S224" and "F1953" will serve as the basis for the next Minnesota symbols.

Because it was agreed upon by the commission earlier, the seal is closer to being finalized. Meanwhile, modifications to the flag could include the shape of Minnesota, the number and color of stripes, and the star.

Commission members are expected to vote on revisions — including the motto and date — at its final upcoming meetings.

The commission will consider new mockups at its next meeting, taking place Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 9 a.m. A public Zoom link of the meeting will be posted here.

Under state law, the commission must develop and adopt a new design for the official state flag and seal no later than Jan. 1, 2024. The Minnesota Legislature will then be tasked with approving the designs.
