Friends Of St. Kate’s Grad Raise Nearly $30K After Fatal Crash

The 28-year-old received her master's degree from St. Kate's in Saint Paul and worked as an occupational therapist in northwest Minnesota.

CLAY COUNTY, MN — Jaynie Halvorson, a wife and mother of a 6-month-old baby boy, died in a car crash near her Barnseville home in rural northwest Minnesota in January.

After the crash, the Barnesville High School Class of 2007 started a GoFundMe page to honor her. After the crash, family and friends raised $28,568 before the fund was closed recently.

The 28-year-old received her master's degree from St. Kate's in Saint Paul and worked as an occupational therapist in several Barnseville-area schools.

"Jaynie left an impact on everyone she met," reads her obituary.

Halvorson's family requested the funds go to a scholarship for her baby.

Minnesota just passed 100 traffic fatalities for 2018 over the weekend.

The 100 fatalities include:

  • 83 motor vehicle occupants.
  • Five motorcyclists, compared with six this time last year.
  • 11 pedestrians compared with 12 this time last year.
  • One bicyclist compared with zero this time last year.
  • 11 deaths involving crashes with heavy vehicle trucks.
  • 45 single vehicle crashes.
  • 47 multi-vehicle crashes.

The state reported 100 deaths on May 15 in 2017.
