'Fun While It Lasted': Thunder, Snow And Single Digits Forecast For Twin Cities
Days of spring-like temperatures in the metro will give way to a reality check Tuesday night, according to authorities.
ST. PAUL, MN — After days of spring-like temperatures with highs in the 50s, winter will return to the Twin Cities this week with a mid-month reality check in the form of rain, gusting winds, snow and single-digit temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.
“It was fun while it lasted! The sunshine is taking a backseat today as our weather turns active,” the NWS Twin Cities X account posted Tuesday morning.
“We’ll see rain move in this evening before a changeover to snow Wednesday. Another potential winter storm is looming for Thursday night that could bring more snow.”

The rain is forecast to start in the Twin Cities as early as 5 p.m. Tuesday, with winds gusting up to 35 mph overnight and as much as a quarter inch of rain, maybe more in cases of thunderstorms, according to the weather service.
Rain is expected to continue through mid-afternoon Wednesday, when the precipitation will turn into a mix of rain and snow that may linger in the area through Thursday night, the weather service reported, before turning to snow Friday.

“If we indeed see a more aggressive transition to snow than currently forecast, then a band of 1-3" of snow will be possible across much of central MN that could reach as far southeast as the Twin Cities,” according to the weather service’s Tuesday forecast discussion.
The high on Tuesday was forecast to reach 52 degrees for the metro, but by Friday, it is expected to drop below freezing, and by Sunday night, the low is predicted to hit the single digits, according to the weather service.
