How Long Can Your Neighbors Display Lawn Signs in Saint Paul?

Election Day is over. How long can your neighbors legally keep their Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton signs up?

If you hadn't noticed, Election Day is over. However, many of your neighbors' lawn signs supporting Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and other candidates are still on display.

Is this legal? How long can these signs stick around in Saint Paul?

Minnesota law states that "All noncommercial signs of any size may be posted in any number beginning 46 days before the state primary in a state general election year until ten days following the state general election." The state law overrides local ordinances, meaning residents have the right to display lawn signs until at least 10 days after the election. The law doesn't stipulate when the signs have to be removed.

In Saint Paul, however, once those 10 days after the election are up, city ordinance holds that all lawn signs must be removed. That means this year, Saint Paul lawns should return to politics-free zones by Nov. 18.
