Minnesota Sees Record-Breaking 73,400 Online Voter Registrations in 24 Hours

Today is last day to pre-register to vote. Voters who miss deadline can still register on Election Day at their polling place

Secretary of State Steve Simon announced that Minnesota saw a record-breaking 73,478 online vote registrations Monday, shattering the previous one-day record of nearly 27,000 online voter registrations. This number includes both new registrations and updates to existing registrations.

Tuesday is the last day for Minnesotans to pre-register to vote ahead of the November 8 General Election. Eligible Minnesotans can register to vote online until 11:59 p.m., or return a paper voter registration application to the Office of the Secretary of State or their local elections office by 5 p.m.

Voters who do not pre-register may register at their polling place on Election Day, according to a news release.

The surge in online voter registrations is likely the result of a reminder pushed to Minnesotans by Facebook Monday evening.

“The voter registration process is easier and more convenient than ever before, and pre-registering will help reduce lines at voting sites on Election Day," Simon said in a statement. "Minnesotans who don’t pre-register can still register at their polling place on Election Day."

Voter registration applications are also available at every state agency, all 87 county offices throughout the state, and online in English, Spanish, Hmong, Somali, Vietnamese, Russian, Chinese, Lao, Oromo, Khmer, Amharic, and Karen.

Minnesotans who are already registered to vote can confirm that their voter registration information is up to date here.

While Minnesota has more than 3.2 million registered voters, there are an additional 800,000 citizens who are eligible but have not yet registered to vote, officials say.
