MN School Bus Driver Booked On DWI After Crashing With 49 Kids Aboard

The 59-year-old woman showed signs of impairment after she crashed the bus in Rush City Thursday morning, authorities said.

CHISAGO COUNTY, MN — A school bus driver was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk Thursday she crashed in the north Twin Cities metro with 49 students aboard, according to the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver was identified as a 59-year-old woman from Harris. She has not yet been formally charged.

Just after 8 a.m., authorities were alerted that a Rush City Public Schools School bus had gone off the roadway on Game Avenue just north of Tiger Trail in Rush City. There were 49 students on the bus, but none were injured, investigators said.

At the scene, a county sergeant interviewed the bus driver and observed signs of alcohol impairment in her, according to authorities. The woman was arrested and booked into the Chisago County Jail.

A backup bus arrived at the scene and all students were safely brought to their school, investigators aid.

The case is still being investigated and charges are being assessed, the Chisago County Sheriff's Office said.
