Online Students Video Chat with Glacier National Park Ranger

Virtual Tours enable students, and parents, to experience different people and places from the comfort of their home

Falcon View Connections Academy students from all over Minnesota, recently had the opportunity to join in a LiveLesson virtual classroom session and speak with Stephanie Hummel, a park ranger from Glacier National Park in Montana’s Rocky Mountains. During the session the students were able to learn about the National Park Service, her job as a park ranger and ask questions about wildlife.

The public virtual K-10 school often hosts these special online sessions to enable students to see and hear from individuals who share their different stories and career experiences. In addition to the students who participate in the sessions, members of their families will often join in the experience. FVCA has recently hosted virtual tours for students giving them the opportunity to visit places like the Maya Ruins, travel into our solar system and explore the life of Anne Frank.

“Stephanie did an amazing job at answering a whole assortment of student questions and the pictures she showed us of the park were amazing,” said FVCA teacher Sara Kraiter. “I think the students learned a lot and several of them are now trying to talk their parents into a road trip to Montana this summer.”

Kraiter added a couple of the students who joined in the session, commented on how the discussion helped them better understand how the national parks work and the different kinds of wildlife at Glacier National Park. It even inspired one student to want to someday be a park ranger. The LiveLesson was recorded so other students who couldn’t attend it live can listen to it later.
