Overloaded Boat Capsizes On Windy Memorial Day: Sheriff

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says an overloaded fishing boat with five passengers capsized on Memorial Day.

STERNS COUNTY, MN — A windy Memorial Day on Pearl Lake caused a fishing boat with its five passengers to capsize. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a capsized boat on the southeast side of Pearl Lake in Maine Prairie Township on Monday, May 29 at about 3:30 p.m. Authorities say windy conditions and overloading the 16-foot fishing boat caused it to become swamped and capsized it with owner/operator He-Sun, age 33 of St. Cloud and his four passengers: 58-year old Fengyi Xu of Roseville, 30-year old Shuai Guan of St. Paul, 42-year old Yu Jiang of Coon Rapids and 45-year old Qiliang Xu of Coon Rapids.

Two other fishing boats on the lake helped the victims into boats and transported them to the access where they were cared for by the Kimball Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance, according to a news release. No injuries were reported and no one was transported to the hospital. The fishing boat has been removed from the lake.
