The girlfriend of Philando Castile, the man who was fatally shot by police last July in a Twin Cities suburb, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony assault.

Saint Paul police said at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, they responded to the scene of an assault on the 1500 block of Jessamine Avenue. Diamond Reynolds was allegedly among three females who jumped a 24-year-old woman.

It was reported to police that at one point, the woman was hit in the head with a hammer, the Pioneer Press reported.

Reynolds, 27, became the subject of national interest after she streamed the aftermath of her boyfriend's shooting death on Facebook Live.

Charges have not been filed.

Reynolds' Facebook live video from last summer drew millions of views and sparked protests in the Twin Cities and across the nation.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi, who is leading the prosecution against the officer charged with fatally shooting Castile, has turned the Reynolds' case over to the Washington County Attorney to avoid a conflict of interest, according to the Star Tribune.
