ST. PAUL, MN — Federal authorities are investigating after two planes had a near-miss Wednesday at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

An air traffic controller instructed American Airlines flight 2406, inbound from Dallas/Forth Worth and scheduled to arrive at 6:18 p.m., to cancel its landing and go around because Delta Air Lines flight 1163, set to depart at 6:15 p.m. for Santa Ana, was still on the runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

American’s Boeing 737 was approaching shortly before 6:30 p.m. when the controller cleared Delta’s Airbus A220 for takeoff and the Boeing passed above and to the left of the Airbus, authorities said.
