Bus-Bicycle Crash At Snelling And Summit Leaves 1 Dead

The deadly crash involving a school bus occurred Wednesday afternoon.

SAINT PAUL, MN — Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a school bus and a bicyclist at the intersection of Snelling and Summit Avenue Wednesday afternoon. No students on the bus were injured.

Officers were called to the scene at about 2:10 p.m.

Police found a man "gravely wounded" lying in the street. Life-saving measures performed on the bicyclist were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.

There were 30 Ramsey Middle School students on the bus headed home at the time of the crash. They were escorted to Macalester College across the street, where another bus picked them up.

St. Paul Schools confirmed the bus was driven by a contractor for the district. The driver was not injured.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the crash. It is not yet clear what led up to the crash.

"Crisis counselors will be at Ramsey for the remainder of the week," the district said in a statement.

Authorities continue to investigate the collision. The bicyclist will be identified after his family is notified.
