St. Paul Police Shoot Man After Reported Sexual Assault
State authorities are investigating after a St. Paul officer shot and wounded a man after during the investigation of a sexul assault.
ST. PAUL, MN — State authorities are investigating after a St. Paul officer shot and wounded a man after during the investigation of a sexul assault. The man is being treated and is expected to survive.
On Saturday just after midnight, police were called to an apartment complex on the 400 block of Thomas Avenue West for a reported in-progress sexual assault.
The 911 caller stated that a man was physically and sexually assaulting a woman while armed with a handgun, and he could hear the woman screaming.

When officers arrived, a man tried to exit the building through a back window but then tried to go back inside the same way, according to police.
Police were able to get the woman to safely exit the apartment.

Meanwhile, the man came out of the apartment and charged officers in the hallway. Shots were fired by one officer, which struck the man in the arm, according to authorities
Officers called for St. Paul fire medics to respond and began to provide first aid to the man, who was transported to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other shooting injuries, according to investigators.
"Due to the nature of this incident, we requested the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to handle the investigation," the St. Paul Police Department said in a statement.
"The officers involved in this incident were wearing body cameras that were activated. The BCA will review the video and other evidence as part of its investigation. The officers will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting."
