ST. PAUL, MN — A University of St. Thomas student and former athlete sexually assaulted a freshman girl at an off-campus house, according to prosecutors in Ramsey County.

Jack S. Osborne, 23, was charged Monday with third-degree criminal sexual conduct (victim mentally impaired/physically helpless). If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

"Jack Osborne was a University of St. Thomas student-athlete on the track and field team roster until spring 2020. He graduated in May 2022 and is no longer enrolled at the university," St. Thomas told Patch in an email.

On March 7, 2022, police responded to a local hospital on a sexual assault report. A freshman student told officers that she blacked out after an "initiation party" for the university track team two days earlier.

The student and other teammates arrived at the party around 7:3o p.m., she said. She was served alcoholic drinks — a vodka cranberry drink and three hard seltzer drinks — according to the criminal complaint.

Around 9 p.m., she and her teammates went to another party at an off-campus house on Lincoln Avenue, where Osborne lived, investigators said. The student felt very drunk and threw up in the bathroom, according to authorities.

She then "blacked out" and when she woke up, Osborne was on top of her and sexually assaulting her, the criminal complaint states.

"She recalled wanting to call her dad but then blacked out again," the complaint adds.

The captains of the track team found her and then brought her back to her dorm room, according to police.
