Arrest Made In Brutal Beating of Shakopee Woman
Mitchell Thomas Ellis of Fridley was arrested and charged with third-degree and domestic felony assaults.

A Shakopee woman was found bleeding and beaten to unconsciousness last Thursday, with both of her eyes swollen shut and bulging to size of golf balls, according to police statements. Her 34-year-old boyfriend, Mitchell Thomas Ellis of Fridley, was arrested the next day and charged with third-degree and domestic felony assaults.
When the victim awoke, she told police about a fight with her boyfriend and his excessive use of crack cocaine leading up to the assault. She said she saw him using crack last Thursday, and later that night drinking four rum-based drinks at a bar in Brooklyn Park while they were socializing with his family. She said he apparently became angry because she was talking to someone else at the bar. At about midnight Thursday the pair left the bar and got into his vehicle where she said he started punching her in the face.
She was taken to the hospital and treated for a broken nose and other injuries.
Ellis told police he went to the bar with his girlfriend and left in his vehicle. But, he said “he does not remember anything after leaving the bar and he woke up in the back of a car in South Minneapolis with a friend.”
He was convicted of two prior domestic abuse charges in 2005 and 2006. He also has prior convictions for possessing illegal drugs, fleeing from police in a vehicle, and another assault.
