Beloved Shakopee Teacher, Army Guard Member Killed In Edina Crash

EDINA, MN — A beloved Shakopee teacher, coach, and Army National Guard member was killed Sunday in a crash on Highway 169 in Edina, according to the Minnesota State Patrol and Shakopee Public Schools.

Ryan Michael Eiler, 32, of Champlin, was driving a 2004 Toyota RAV4 northbound on Highway 169 near Highway 62 when the vehicle abruptly swerved left and hit the cement median barrier at 12:38 p.m., the State Patrol said.

Eiler was taken to HCMC, where he died, according to the patrol.

The road was dry at the time of the crash, and Eiler was wearing a seat belt, officials said. Alcohol was not suspected.

Shakopee Public Schools said Eiler joined the district in 2021 as a health and physical education teacher at Shakopee High School—Academies of Shakopee.

In March 2025, he also became an assistant coach for the boys' sprint team.

The district said Eiler was also an active member of the Army National Guard and a graduate of both the University of St. Thomas and the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

"It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Ryan Eiler, as reported by the Minnesota State Patrol the evening of Sunday, April 26th," Shakopee Public Schools said in a statement.

Support staff and members of the District Crisis & Safety Committee will be onsite at the high school throughout the week, the district said.

Resources will also be available for students and families, along with support from school counselors, school psychologists, and administrators.
