In the last five years, the Shakopee Graduates In Need fund has helped approximately 70 graduating students purchase things such as caps, stoles, tassels, graduation cakes and yearbooks. In order to be eligible for the program, students and their families have to meet financial hardship qualifications, have had a death in the family or are living homeless.
Area residents and businesses who contributed to helping during 2012 graduate year included: Sam and Jenny Mayberry, Ruby Winnings, Michael and Kay Alley, James and Susan Hill, Gary and Sandy Schuneman, Mary Louise Sinnen, Chad and Nicole Hove, Curbside Lawn Care, Cub Foods of Shakopee, First Choice Photography, the Shakopee American Legion Post No. 2 and Great Clips of Shakopee.
The deadline to donate to the 2013 Graduates in Need Fund is May 1.
