Season on the Line, Coyotes Pull Off Stunner of Their Own

Behind two Zak Hoffman home runs, Coyotes top Prior Lake 7-6 to compete in the State Amateur Baseball Tournament.

Staring at elimination down 6-2 to the Prior Lake Mudcats after 6 innings, the Coyotes rallied to stun the Mudcats pulling out a 7-6 victory in the bottom of the 9th Sunday afternoon at Tahpah Park.

After suffering the same fate from the losing side last Thursday, the Coyotes dropped the Mudcats into the 1-1 bracket of region 3C play, where they both will continue their bids for a berth in the upcoming State Amateur Baseball Tournament.

The Coyotes will travel to Lonsdale Tuesday evening to try to avenge last Thursday's 9th inning defeat. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

In the Prior Lake game, down 2-0 after the top half of the first, Josh Gregor walked, and Zak Hoffman homered to left to tie the score at 2. After the Mudcats built their lead to 6-2 after 6, the coyotes scored one in the seventh, and two in the eighth to narrow the gap to 6-5.

In the 9th the Mudcats brought in their hard throwing ace Ben Morrison, facing Zak Hoffman. Hoffman turned on a fastball and drilled his second homerun of the game to tie it at six. With two outs, Alex Gregor struck out swinging but the ball evaded Prior Lake catcher, Levi Schnieder, to allow Gregor to reach on a wild pitch. After stealing second, Andrew Boyce walked and Benny Lazzari singled up the middle to score Gregor with the winning run.
