'Good to Go Kids' Helps Feed Students in Need

The Good to Go Kids program, which provides food to Shakopee students in need during the weekend, kicked off at Jackson Elementary on Dec. 7.

Program volunteers filled 50 backpacks with donated food the night prior. Every Friday, the students who signed up for the program will pick up their backpacks after school at a designated area in the building.

Teachers will allow students to leave class a few minutes early to receive their backpacks before they leave for the day. A Good to Go Kids volunteer will help with this process to ensure students receive the right backpacks.

Seventeen students at Shakopee High School started receiving their backpacks on Dec. 7. The program is also providing backpacks for 12 children at Minnesota River Valley Special Education Cooperative. More Shakopee students are expected to be part of the program this week.

Good to Go Kids was established the summer of 2012 by Shakopee School Board member Mary Romansky. Good to Go Kids is a community-based organization. It is not connected to or run by the school district. It operates under the umbrella of a 501.3C non-profit, the Carver Scott Educational Foundation.
