Meet the Owners: Bryan and Lisa Turtle

Bryan and Lisa Turtle say they are proud to serve the Shakopee community.

For Bryan and Lisa Turtle, their restaurant is their second home. has become a hometown staple, known for its thin crust pizza and crispy fried chicken.

“We enjoy being part of this community,” Bryan Turtle said. “It doesn’t feel like work when I come here every morning.”

With his wife and business partner at his side, the duo has carved out a niche for themselves in town. Aside from a great spot for lunch or dinner, 20 beers on tap at the bar, and friendly staff, the Turtle’s also host  in an adjoining space known as Turtle's Social Centre.

“I really like working on weddings,” Bryan Turtle said. “We go out of our way to meet with the couple and make their day as special as possible, and that’s a great feeling.”

Turtle started the restaurant 21 years ago with his parents. Now his wife, Lisa, shares in the daily oversight of the popular hangout. Since it opened, three additions have been made. What started with a modest size bar, has now transformed into a sizeable restaurant, an area for two pool tables, and a banquet room.

“When we opened it was probably a third of the size that it is now,” he said. “Growth has been good for us, we try to offer a little something for everyone.”

To help with the growing demand, the Turtle’s children also help as servers and hosts.

“One day we hope one of our children will take this place over,” Bryan Turtle said. “They’re still a little young yet so we have some time but hopefully one day they will take as much pride in the fact that their name is on the door as we do.”

For now they hope their children understand the value of hard work, and the joys of working together as a family.

“We get to share in the rewards of running a business together,” Lisa Turtle said.  “My kids ask me all the time, ‘Why are you so happy to go to work?’ and I tell them because I get to go to work with great people and see new people everyday.”
