Sprinting from the starting gate, runners took over the Canterbury horse racing track for the annual 5k Turf Run in Shakopee.
Both seasoned runners and novice athletes participated in the event. The top finishers were photographed in the winner's circle, along with their names and times, which will be posted on the Shakopee Derby Days website later today.
Onlookers cheered for their favorite runner, some sporting encouraging handmade t-shirts and signs, while children—many exhausted from the heat—sat on the benches or rested on parents' shoulders.

After the race, participants re-energized on cookies and bananas, with lots of water in between.
