Seven Public Hearings Scheduled For October 8 In Shakopee

The city plans to install an elevated platform at the archery range, which is located north of the Minnesota River and west of Highway 101.

Seven public hearings have been scheduled for the Oct. 8 Planning Commission/Board of Adjustment and Appeals meeting. Hearings will be held to consider:

  • Conditional use permit for a structure in the floodplain overlay zone at the Shakopee Archery Range. The city plans to install an elevated platform at the archery range, which is located north of the Minnesota River and west of Highway 101. The land is owned by the Department of Natural Resources but leased to the city for an archery range.
  • Conditional use permit for a car wash at 1341 Greenwood Court. Rocket Car Wash plans to raze the former bank building on the site and construct a car wash. The initial development includes an automatic car wash with future plans for a detail tunnel.
  • Preliminary plat of Hentges Industrial Park. Cretex Industrial Park, LLC plans to redevelop 63 acres east of 70th Street and west of Stagecoach Road. The proposal calls for 10 industrial lots, ranging from three acres to 16. The site includes a new road, Hentges Way, to run from 70th Street to a new roundabout at Stagecoach Road.
  • Annexation and zoning of property in Jackson Township. The city is proposing to annex 250 acres located south of Highway 169 and west and east of Old Brick Yard Road. The city is proposing to rezone the property to the Agricultural Preservation Zone to maintain consistency with the surrounding area. The land would likely be rezoned during final development.
  • Preliminary plat and planned unit development of Summerland Place. Summergate Development plans to build a residential development on 117 acres north of 17th Avenue, east of Balinese Street, south of Highway 169 and west of Canterbury Road. The public hearing is anticipated to be continued to Nov. 5.
  • Text amendment to the city's zoning code, including amending 151.002, 151.007, 151.049; elimination of chapters 151.012-151.14; and adding chapter 151.052. The proposed changes would amend two sections of existing city code and would add an new zoning district for parks and open space in line with the 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
  • Rezoning to planned unit development, planned unit development and preliminary and final plat of Canterbury Crossing. Pulte Homes and Lifestyle Communities plan to construct 108 market-rate townhomes and a 56-unit market-rate senior housing co-op on the former Sever's Corn Maze site. The public hearing is anticipated to be continued to Nov. 5.

The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. in the council chambers. It is anticipated that some or all of the members of the Planning Commission will participate by video conference rather than by being personally present at the City Hall council chambers.
