The City Council directed staff to prepare a resolution to add a question to the Nov. 3 ballot asking Shakopee voters whether to disband the Shakopee Public Utilities Commission. The council will discuss the resolution at its Aug. 18 meeting. The final date to add questions to the general election ballot is Aug. 21.
Council reviews proposed full-time Shakopee Fire staffing model
The City Council directed staff to continue developing a potential 24/7-staffing model for the Shakopee Fire Department. Since March, the department has been staffing Fire Station 1 full-time with its duty crew working 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and paid-on-call firefighters filling overnight and weekend shifts. The model has reduced the department’s response times while providing better staffing predictability. Moving to the model permanently is estimated to cost more than $250,000 a year. More information: Rick Coleman, Fire Chief, 952-233-9570.
Council commends Shakopee Parks and Recreation Department
The City Council approved a resolution commending the Shakopee Parks and Recreation Department for its outstanding planning, flexibility, steadfast determination and customer service during COVID-19. While the department’s programs and facilities have been greatly impacted by COVID-19, department staff continue to provide high-quality service. The resolution is available on the city website.
