The Community Center will remain closed until Jan. 11, 2021. Shakopee Parks and Recreation staff made the decision to keep the Community Center closed through the rest of December due in part to the restrictions outlined in Governor Walz’s recent executive order.

Although Executive Order 20-103 has allowed fitness centers to reopen, it has continued the suspension of group fitness classes until Jan. 4, and operations at indoor aquatic facilities through at least Jan. 11.
“The operational restrictions in implementing the Governor’s most recent Executive Order 20-103 severely impact the services we can offer, and the volume of people who might access those services,” Parks and Recreation Director Jay Tobin said in an email. “Consequently, we are unable to justify resuming member fee charges, and are therefore unable to cover the expenses of staffing and sanitizing required to reopen the facility.”

Instead of opening the Community Center piece by piece, Shakopee Parks and Recreation has made the decision to reopen the facility entirely, when safely allowed to do so.
Community Center memberships will be placed on hold during the length of the closure. Members with an annual membership will have their memberships extended for the full length of the closure. Members on our monthly plan will not be billed for the month of January.
During the closure, Shakopee Parks and Recreation will continue to offer free virtual fitness classes through Dec. 31. Registration for these programs is available at ShakopeeMN.gov/communitycenter.
