Shakopee Girls Cross Country Win Sections, Look to State Saturday
The girls will run for a state title Saturday morning at St. Olaf.
The Shakopee girls cross country team won the Section 2AA championship on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Lake Marion Park in Hutchinson.
Junior Maria Hauger won the section championship individually, finishing the 4-kilometer race in 13 minutes 36.5 seconds. She led a group of four Sabers who finished in the top six at the meet, and the team won the event with 49 team points. Chanhassen finished second and also qualified for state with a team score of 70 points.
Hauger will return to the state tournament looking for her third consecutive individual state title. The Class AA meet will take place on Saturday at St. Olaf College in Northfield. The race begins at 10 a.m.

Shakopee finished 11th at the state meet a year ago.
Junior Winona Rachel finished the section meet with a third place finish in 14:50.1. Seventh-grader Tess Misgen finished fourth at 14:51.0 and junior Alli Lynch finished sixth at 14:52.0.

Anna Neu finished 35th at 16:03.8, Allyson Walker finished 50th at 16:19.9 and Madelyn Leier finished 51st at 16:26.6.
Shakopee boys finish 10th
The Shakopee boys cross country team finished 10th overall at the Section 2AA championships with a team score of 258 points.
The Sabers trailed section champion Chanhassen’s 83 points and Marshall’s second place finish with 87 points. Both teams will advance to Saturday’s Class AA state meet.
Senior Aaron Wood led Shakopee in the 5-kilometer race, finishing in 17:29.1. Bryon Olfert took 46th at 17:54.0, Kyle Rachel took 51st at 18:00.3 and Mike Wagner took 56th at 18:02.6.
Allen Lynch finished 71st with a time of 18:15.9, Gavin Menning took 73rd at 16:16.8 and Alex Easton took 86th at 18:40.2.
