Shakopee Police Explorers Give Students Hands-On Experience

Police Explorers receive training in traffic stops, bomb threats, burglary response and other topics. An informational meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m.

From the City of Shakopee: 

The Shakopee Police Department invites young men and women, ages 15 to 20, who are interested in law enforcement to the Police Explorers 1st Nighter informational meeting from 4 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Shakopee Police Department (475 Gorman Street).

The Shakopee Police Explorers help students to build qualities such as leadership, citizenship and professionalism through hands‐on experience. During the school year, the Police Explorers meet most Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Shakopee Police Department.

They receive training in a variety of topics including traffic stops, domestic violence intervention, bomb threats, traffic accident reconstruction and burglary response. The Explorers also assist the Police Department at city events like bicycle rodeos, Derby Days, Night to Unite, career fairs and more.
