Shakopee School Board Has New Chairperson

Mary Romansky elected at Jan. 11 meeting.

Each year, the Shakopee School Board holds its organizational meeting in January to vote on officers for the year to follow. At the Jan. 11 meeting, the board's vote resulted in the following officers for 2013:

  • Mary Romansky - chairperson
  • Reggie Bowerman - vice chair
  • Angela Tucker - clerk
  • Scott Swanson - treasurer

Board directors are Matt McKeand, Steve Schneider and Carla Shutrop. Bowerman, Tucker and Swanson held the same offices in 2012.

Romansky has been a school board member since 1997. She is a veteran of the United States Army and served as a Russian linguist. She earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Portuguese from the University of Minnesota.

In the summer of 2012, she founded Good to Go Kids, a community-based organization that provides food to students in need to help ensure they get the nutrition they need to keep their minds and bodies active and healthy. Good to Go Kids started in December 2012 with pilot programs providing food for more than 100 students at Jackson Elementary, Shakopee High School and the Minnesota River Valley Special Education Cooperative. Mary and her husband Robert have been married since 1981. Their son Chris graduated from Shakopee High School in 2001 and their daughter Katie graduated from the school in 2006.
