Shutterfly to Bring 1,000 New Jobs to Minnesota

Construction is currently underway for a new facility in Shakopee, Minnesota for personalized printing company Shutterfly that will offer 1,000 full and part-time jobs.

The jobs offered will include those in manufacturing, production, customer service, IT, finance, and supply chain to name a few. While Shutterfly is generally known for online photo-sharing and storage, they offer a variety of products, including invitations and even custom-printed iPhone cases. Shutterfly says the Shakopee location will allow the company to reduce shipping costs and get products to upper Midwest customers more quickly.

This Midwest growth equates to hundreds of jobs paying an average of $19 an hour. The company expects to eventually have approximately 400 full-time workers and up to 600 part-time workers.

State and local officials actively pursued the expansion by offering various incentives and tax breaks in order to gain local jobs and the associated business that comes with that level of expansion in a local market. Governor Mark Dayton flew to Shutterfly’s corporate headquarters in July to personally make the pitch for the company to build in Minnesota.

The anticipated open date for the facility is the mid-summer of 2014. An application for employment is available on the Shutterfly website.
