Man 'Mortally Wounded,' 3 Others Shot In St. Paul: PD

It was outside of a funeral home where a fatal gunshot victim was being laid out, in an event not believed to be random, cops say.

ST. PAUL, MN — A 28-year-old man was killed and three other men wounded when police say shots rang out outside of a funeral home on St. Paul's westside where the victim of a prior fatal shooting was reportedly being laid out.

Police responded at about 11:20 a.m. over a report of "multiple shots" fired on Humboldt Avenue, near where the Bradshaw Funeral Home is located, and when they arrived, four people were found, including the 28-year-old who was "mortally wounded," police said in a statement Monday afternoon.

A man believed to be in his 30s was struck in the neck, a man believed to be in his 20s was grazed by a bullet on the face, and a man believed to be in his 20s was shot in the abdomen, back and leg, according to police.

Officers "immediately began securing the scene and rendering aid," while Saint Paul Fire medics were called and transported the men to Regions Hospital, said police, adding that the 28-year-old was pronounced dead there.

The man, who was shot in the abdomen, back and femur, is listed in "critical condition," while the other two men are being treated for their injuries, police said.

"Patrol officers are currently holding the scene while investigators with the police department’s homicide, video management, and forensic services units respond to look for possible witnesses, find surveillance video and collect evidence," police said.

Investigators do not believe the shooting was random.

According to the Star Tribune, the funeral had been for Casanova Carter, 26, who died in a Feb. 1 fatal shooting.


In a Tweet Monday afternoon, police said no one has been arrested and they advised anyone with information to call 651-266-5650.
