The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the investigation.
"Grateful for the coordinated law enforcement presence at the State Fair," Gov. Tim Walz said in a statement on Twitter Saturday night. "Officers are working quickly to usher folks off the fairgrounds and respond to reports of violence in the Midway area. We’re monitoring the situation and working quickly to restore order."
In a later tweet, Walz said that "The fairgrounds have been secured. Thank you to @MnDPS_MSP and @MnDPS_BCA who are on site. We are in touch with State Fair police and officials and will have more information in the morning. Law enforcement is investigating this incident and bolstering their presence tomorrow."
Republican Scott Jensen, who is running to unseat Walz this November, blamed Walz for the chaos.
Governor, reflect on how you’ve encouraged this lawlessness! The Mall of America? The state fair? Is anything sacred? More cops. Tough-on-crime judges. RIGHT NOW!! https://t.co/5PM8Eut103
