16-Year-Old's Death Marks 61st Homicide In Minneapolis

No arrests have been made in the boy's death.

MINNEAPOLIS — No arrests have been made after a 16-year-old was fatally shot in north Minneapolis, marking the city's 61st homicide of 2022.

Just after 8 p.m. on Thursday, officers responded to Knox Avenue North and Plymouth Avenue North to a ShotSpotter activation and 911 reports of shots fired.

At the scene, officers found a 16-year-old boy with life-threatening gunshot wounds lying in a parking lot near the street. Police provided aid until fire and EMS crews arrived.

The boy was then transported by ambulance to Hennepin Healthcare, where he died.

Forensic scientists and city detectives responded to process the scene and collect evidence.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the boy's identity, cause, and nature of his death. This is the 61st death investigated as a homicide by the Minneapolis Police Department this year.
